On 27th June 2020 Tampala UK hosted an event on zoom to celebrate the 100th Birthday of dancer Anna Halprin. It was an uplifting three hours of film clips, discussion and physical engagement in our homes via the Tamalpa movement/drawing process.
I am so grateful to Anna (& filmmaker Andy Abrahams Wilson) for giving me permission to show two extracts of her film "Returning Home" in the PLACEIng Objects exhibition, last March. Thanks to Helen-Jane Ridgeway for facilitating our connection and to Libby Worth for her ongoing insights into Anna's work. Tamalpa shared this clip of a work developed for her 95th Birthday by Anna Halprin in collaboration with her grandson Jahan Khalighi, that remembers events in her long career . It is such a life-affirming joy to watch here is the link: https://youtu.be/4EwJmQArYv4 Post script It is with deep sadness I have to add that Anna Halprin died on 24th May 2021. There are many tributes online but here is one from the NY Times to start with: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/26/arts/dance/anna-halprin-dies-at-100-choreographer-committed-to-experimenting.html I will always be indebted to her for her generosity (& Daria Halprin) in allowing me to show her film sequences in PLACEing Objects.
